The Bournemouth Vintage Fayre will be linking up with Streets of Bournemouth, the first ever interactive online museum devoted to the story of Bournemouth.

The museum, which has been endorsed by travel writer and former resident, Bill Bryson, will be displaying a series of images and historic local artefacts in the main tent at the Bournemouth Vintage Fayre.

Streets of Bournemouth will capture the story of Bournemouth’s development in a project that will helps celebrate the town’s bicentenary in 2010. The project is a collaboration between Bournemouth University and Bournemouth Borough Council. Collections and expertise from Bournemouth Libraries and the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery and Museum will form the foundation of the website, featuring a mix of maps, photographs, paintings, drawings, objects, musical archives and information.

Funded by an award of £440,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the online museum will bring together the past and the present through its community archive where residents will be able to contribute their own photographs, memories and stories.

Best selling author and former Bournemouth resident, Bill Bryson, who is backing the project and says,

“The project is a once in a life-time opportunity for the people of Bournemouth to participate in the creation of the town’s first centralised online history of Bournemouth”.
