Vintage fashions and much more!

scan Vintage fashions and much more!Patricia Godwin, acknowledged specialist on the Social Whirl of the Twentieth Century, will be joining us at the Bournemouth Vintage Fayre for a witty and illuminating look at the Roaring Twenties!

Patricia’s talks are more one woman show than straightforward lecture - a flourish of fashion and frills interlaced with delightful adverts, extraordinary news items, bizarre political pronouncements, recipes and advice from newspapers and magazines of the day - giving insight and flavour of the period.

Several years ago, Patricia was contacted by an elderly lady who had an extensive family collection of 20th century clothes, accessories, magazines and newspapers, which had been part of the display in her impressive stately home when it opened to the public. As she was the last of her family, she wished the collection to go to someone who would appreciate it, keep it together and continue to give people an insight into those earlier times. She believed Patricia to be the ideal person.

The collection ranged from Victorian underwear, Edwardian motoring outfits, gentlemen’s swimwear, Twenties flapper dresses, ‘young men about town’ blazers and boaters, Thirties bias cut tea gowns, Forties utility fashions, Fifties ‘New Look’ and Sixties mini skirts - plus a cornucopia of period accessories such as jewellery, parasols, handbags, cloche hats, ration books, charleston stockings, wartime gas masks and much more!

Patricia weaves together fascinating and entertaining snippets from this remarkable treasure trove of social history, and we are delighted that she will be giving her talk entitled ‘Anything Goes’ in the main tent at the Vintage Fayre, and displaying a selection of fashions from her collection which date from the 1920s and 30s.
